Switching levels back to normal in January

More than 211,000 households switched their electricity supplier in January––36% lower than the number that switched a month earlier––according to figures from Energy UK, with Small suppliers gained a net 56,000 new customers. The organisation’s monthly switching update, published on 11 February, confirmed that switching levels last month were down sharply on those recorded in November and December 2014, which saw around 299,000 and 333,000 switches respectively. But Energy UK said that this was in line with historical trends, and that switching in January typically revered to “normal levels” after an increased level of activity during the preceding two months. Nevertheless, January 2015 saw around 28,000 fewer switches than in the same month a year earlier.
